About Me

Welcome to my knit and crochet blog! I am completely new to blogging, so bear with my as I find my voice. I started this blog to share some of the designs I have been working on. I have been admiring several blogs for a few years now, always thinking that I would like to do something like them. I've been working on designing my own patterns as well, but I am just now coming into my own and feeling proud of the designs I've created.

A little about me: I am a mother of three amazing young men, recently remarried to the love of my life, and a teacher at a small charter school as a full time profession. I was a professional photographer (primarily weddings) for about twelve years before I became a teacher. My photography business supported me while I put myself through college in my thirties. I live in rural Minnesota, on the outer edge of the Twin Cities metro area. Our farm is still 70 acres, and has been in the family for nearly 150 years! I live on a small creek, and I see wildlife on a daily basis. I will be sure to post pictures frequently along with my knit and crochet ideas. I own two horses, about two dozen chickens, and several barn cats. Here is a picture of our pet rooster, Walter.

He was being severely bullied by our other two roosters, so he chose to move out of the coop. He has been living outside for several months now and follows us around the yard because my husband started feeding him cracked corn outside his shed every morning (along with the deer). My hubby is very into making maple syrup each spring, and also does a lot of work with metal. He made our wedding bands. I will also share any cool ideas he comes up with periodically.

I learned to crochet when I was eight years old. My old, Norwegian grandmother taught me when I went up north to visit pretty much every weekend. She gave me a beautiful doily that my dad had crocheted. I really treasured it! I also learned macrame from my great aunt Martha. I taught myself to knit around the same time using some how-to books my mom had. Knitting was not my thing when I was young. It took too long and didn't have the flexibility that crochet had. I do remember knitting some leg warmers for my Brenda Breyer doll at one point. Breyer horses is another thing, but I won't get into that here.

I picked up knitting again several years ago. I was trying to organize and minimize my house, and I discovered that I had a huge yarn stash that I was determined to reduce without throwing any of it away. That is when I discovered the true power of the internet. I found so many free patterns online! I started getting daily emails with free patterns, and eventually found some amazing blogs that offered beautiful patterns for free. I started adapting patterns to use the yarn I already had, but eventually I had to buy more yarn. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure my stash is larger now than it was when I started. I guess that's the way it goes when you're a knitter or crocheter.

I would love to hear from my followers! Feel free to ask me questions about any of the things I do. It doesn't have to be limited to the needlework. I am really looking forward to this journey I have begun, and getting to know more people with my interests! Welcome!

  1. Hi, Just now (10/19/19) finding your blog. I love your story. Where do you find time to do all you do? Have all the material and needles to knit your midnight cowl. Thank you for the pattern. Please keep up the good work. Rachel F. Tucson, AZ

    1. Hi Rachel! Thanks for your kind comments! To be honest, I usually don't get it all done. The housework suffers the most and I usually have a pile of dishes that need washing. I was able to get this blog started last summer because, as a teacher, I had the summer off. Now that I have everything up and running, the occasional posting of a new pattern doesn't take as long.

FYI, I have a few knitting patterns that are very near completion, so keep your eyes open for those to post. I'm very excited about what's to come!
